In the book of Acts, we read how the apostles devoted themselves, “to prayer and the ministry of the Word” (Acts 6:4). Throughout Acts we see this phrase, “And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of disciples multiplied” (6:7).  This seems far to simple and yet this is how the Church was formed!

When Peter speaks God’s Word in (from Joel and the Psalms)  the people are “cut to the heart”, repent, and three thousand souls are added (Acts 2). lt is only after “Peter opens his mouth” and proclaims Jesus, that the Holy Spirit fell on the household of Cornelius (Acts 10). In Antioch, the scattered and persecuted church spoke to the Hellenists, “preaching the Lord Jesus” and “a great many people were added to the Lord” (Acts 11).

These historical accounts, parallel Paul’s words in Romans 10:17; “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

The primary task of the church planter, must be the Word of God and prayer!  The primary task of the every day disciple of Jesus must be,  “preaching the Lord Jesus”.  If our community does not hear the “word of Christ”, how will they believe?  If we are not prayerfully speaking God’s Word, how will Community Grace be formed?

Community Grace must be known as a people of the Book and a people of the Word.
